Trans in the City Partners with UAL to Power 2024 Gala & Awards and Support the Student Ambassador Scheme

Trans in the City is delighted to announce our new partnership with the University of the Arts London (UAL), who have joined us as Partner Sponsors, helping us to continue our work in elevating trans and non-binary people in business.

Student Ambassador Scheme

As part of this partnership, UAL will support the ongoing Trans in the City Student Ambassador Scheme, which empowers trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse students by offering them unique opportunities for personal and professional growth.

The scheme is open to trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse students aged 18 or over who are currently enrolled in any form of further education, including university, college, internships, and apprenticeships. Through the scheme, students will gain access to:

  • Insight Days: Exclusive access to businesses and organisations across various sectors, offering insights into potential career paths.

  • Exclusive Events: Tailored events for networking and professional development with peers, mentors, and industry leaders.

  • Community and Networking: A strong support network via dedicated LinkedIn and Discord channels, offering a space for students to share experiences and build connections.

  • Job and Career Opportunities: First-hand access to job openings and career opportunities shared directly by businesses connected with Trans in the City.

Earlier in the year, we were delighted to work with students from University of the Arts London to design our new Student Ambassador brand identity and to create the accompanying publicity materials. Sagar Bhat (he/him), who is currently pursuing a Masters in Interaction Design at London College of Communication UAL, designed the winning logo:

“As a proud ally, I believe in showing up and contributing by utilising one's skills and talents. Schemes like Trans in the City are important because they provide opportunities for fresh talent to flourish. I am glad to be part of crafting the identity for the ambassador program because it does more than just create a safe space—it cultivates a culture of community. These programs empower by fostering inclusivity and diversity and create a supportive environment where all students can thrive and succeed.”

This partnership with UAL will enhance the reach of the scheme, helping even more students develop vital skills and relationships to support their futures.

UAL Powers the 2024 Trans in the City Gala & Awards

We are also excited to announce that UAL will be powering the Trans in the City Gala & Awards 2024, an event that promises to be one of the highlights of Trans Awareness Week. Taking place on the 14th November, the Gala celebrates the contributions and achievements of trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse individuals across a wide range of industries and communities.

With UAL’s support, the Gala will showcase even more inspiring stories, with awards highlighting achievements in the following categories:

  • Trans Community Champion (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, International, Student)– recognising individuals making a significant impact within their communities.

  • Trans Ally Award – recognising outstanding allies who help the trans and non-binary community succeed.

  • Trans Inclusive Organisation – awarded to an organisation that has been making real change to become a trans and non-binary inclusive workplace.

  • Trans Corporate Champion – honouring a trans, non-binary or gender non-conforming person making waves in the corporate world.

UAL’s partnership will help us  shine a light on the incredible work being done to support the trans and non-binary community.

We look forward to working alongside UAL to celebrate the achievements of these individuals and continue promoting inclusion and equality.

Commenting on the partnership, Carley Owen, Student Experience Manager and LGBTQ+ Staff Network Chair at UAL, said:

“We are delighted to be the first university ever to be hosting the Trans in the City Gala & Awards. The work that Trans in the City do to include trans and non-binary people in education, workplace and society is so imperative. The development of the student ambassador programme with UAL students at the centre of this has been a fantastic journey that we can’t wait to keep expanding on with years to come. We are looking forward to raising a glass and celebrating trans and non-binary champions within the community and our forever evolving institution.”
